This page is based on a recent New Roof Peckham project where we completely stripped and replaced the roof on a traditional Victorian property in South East London.

Step 1 – Carrying Out the Initial Roof Survey

Before starting any roof replacement, I always carry out a full inspection so we understand exactly what we’re working with.

From ground level, the roof still looked reasonably presentable.

However, once we gained safe access, several issues quickly became obvious.

As the roof structure became exposed, we inspected every part of the timber framework.

Fortunately, the main roof structure remained in good condition, meaning we could continue with the planned installation without needing major structural repairs.

Removing the roof systematically also helped protect the property from unexpected weather during the project.

Step 3 – Installing the New Roof Structure

With the roof fully stripped, we installed brand-new breathable roofing membrane across the entire roof.

This modern membrane allows moisture inside the roof space to escape while preventing rainwater from entering.

Next we fitted:

New treated timber battens
Correct batten spacing for natural slate
New roof window support framework
Fresh fixings throughout
